Spring in the Mountains

This Spring is full of wildflowers and wild days. The heat is seeping through the windows and it takes the brisk night air quite some time to cool the house back down after the sun gives it a rest. As I listen with my windows open I hear this mountainside breathing, happy to be engulfed by the dark. The creek trickles through grass that's tall enough to hide the chickens as they wander. The crickets sing their melodies to the frogs who bellow back. The fairy lights in my room make me want to go out and gaze at the stars all night. I know they must be crisp tonight, they always are out here at our country hideaway.

I love it here. I dream of all it might be one day, food forest, fauna haven, a whimsical little grange full of flowers and berries. I dream of what it was, a Wild Wild West slice of paradise for anyone daring or sweltering enough to climb this welcoming mountain. Did they follow the wildflowers up as well?

To the misty and stormy days that held me safe this winter, you meant so much to me. Now this Spring is brimming with so much potential and green. I can't believe I get to steward this wild land. I have a plan, I have a full heart, and I am here to chase this calling to grow natural food.

Golden Violet Gardens, named after one of the most whimsical little Californian wildflowers, is where I grow.
